2017

  • Qantas boss says streamlining transtasman border will benefit both countries

15 March 2017 / Dean Purcell / New Zealand Herald
Speaker: Alan Joyce, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Qantas

"There's no reason why the travel between the two countries should be not like travel within New Zealand. It should be the same. It would make it easier for business travellers and it would make tourism a lot easier," he told a Transtasman Business Circle event.

  • Qantas says time to break down the trans-Tasman barriers

    14 March 2017 / Michael Smith / AFR
Speaker: Alan Joyce, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Qantas

"There are three areas in particular it will focus on. The first area is on airport charges. We've had a major spiralling up of costs on all of the airport in the region and that means we are less competitive compared to the rest of the world," Joyce told a Trans-Tasman Business Circle event.

  • Qantas CEO wants Aust-NZ border shake-up

    14 March 2017 / AAP / SBS
Speaker: Alan Joyce, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Qantas

"We think that Australia-New Zealand should have as seamless access as possible," Mr Joyce told a Trans-Tasman Business Circle event that was held at the Australian High Commission in Wellington on Tuesday.

  • The keys to tech shift from one of the Commonwealth’s busiest CIOs

    16 March 2017 / Stephen Easton / The Mandarin
Speaker: Randall Brugeaud, Chief Information Officer, Department of Immigration and Border Protection

“If something comes out of left field, then you just have to deal with it,” he told the Trans-Tasman Business Circle’s founder Johnny Weiss after giving a speech at one of the group’s business lunches in Canberra last week.

2016

  • Mike Smith returns to IBM following 17 years in the ICT industry

    13 December 2016 / Ashton Young / IT Brief
Speaker: Mike Smith, Managing Director New Zealand, IBM

Recently we brought Jason Leonard, Director, IBM Watson Asia Pacific, to New Zealand to meet local clients and speak to the Trans-Tasman Business Circle.

  • Australia Can Learn Key Lessons

6 December 2016 / Luke Malpass & Aaron Patrick / Australian Financial Review
Featuring John Key, Prime Minister of New Zealand

Key has been held up as a model for Australian conservatives, to his first speech, when it was clear that he would defeat Tony Abbott as Liberal Party leader in September last year, Malcolm Turnbull singled out Key for praise. At a Trans-Tasman Business Circle lunch in February, Turnbull described Key as "a great role model for me and for any leader".

  • PM hailed for lifting NZ's economy

    6 December 2016 / Damon Kitney / The Australian
Featuring John Key, Prime Minister of New Zealand

Trans-Tasman Business Circle CEO Johnny Weiss pointed out how Mr Key was able to resonate with everyday New Zealanders and “take the people with him”.
“He gave the people self-belief and pride. We are now perceived by Australian businesspeople, who come to visit, as innovative, smart and nimble,’’ he said, also noting how Mr Key had driven the growth of the nation’s tourism sector.

  • The new hot spot for Australian start-ups

26 November 2016 / Catherine Armitage / The Sydney Morning Herald

Up to 40 Australian trade delegations have visited Israel this year: "a record for sure", says commissioner Ethy Levy of the Israel Trade and Economic Commission in Australia. NSW Premier Mike Baird led one in April; Greater Sydney Commission chief commissioner and prime ministerial spouse Lucy Turnbull led one in May.

A further deluge of Australians hit in late September, coinciding with the city's annual DLD Innovation Festival in Tel Aviv where start-ups, governments, multinationals and venture capitalists from all over the world congregate in search of deals. At least six separate delegations including from Telstra, the AMP, Visy Industries and the Trans-Tasman Business Circle toured the start-up capital's innovation ecosystem.
